Life After College

  1. Accepting the fact that moving back in with your parents is okay and it is not a blow to your ego.
  2. You don’t know what you want to do for a career? Great, because were all confused. 66% of college grads end up working in a field they didn’t receive a degree for.
  3. Reality will hit you hard.
  4. Work and save but do not burn yourself out. There is much much more to life than working, but don’t be lazy.
  5. Do anything to get your foot in the door. Take that unpaid internship, be the low man on the totem pole.
  6. Just because you graduated with a degree does not mean you stop learning.
  7. And that piece of paper does make you superior to anyone, stay humble.
  8. But also be proud of your accomplishment. College is hard work, you’re allowed to celebrate and be happy for yourself.
  9. Be open to new experiences and places.
  10. You may find yourself in more on Friday nights, it means you worked hard and you’re tired.
  11. Actually you will be tired, please do yourself a favor and sleep.
  12. Re-consolidate or refinance your loans. Your future self will thank you.
  13. That dream job will not come knocking at your door but open as many doors as you need to in order to finally achieve it.
  14. Your parents will nag you, text you, call you, please answer. They are probably your biggest supporters, do not neglect the people who brought you where you are today.
  15. You don’t live in a dorm anymore, clean and do your laundry more than once a month.
  16. You will gain friends and lose friends, that’s life.
  17. It’s more than okay to completely change your career path. You are a different person than you were four years ago and you will be a different person four years from now.
  18. Keep a positive attitude and a hard work ethic, it will pay off.
  19. You don’t have to get a Master’s degree, especially if you don’t know what you want to do. Don’t spend anymore of your own money if you’re unsure.
  20. If you’re planning on getting a Master’s Degree find a fellowship or ask your employer for company grant programs. If you don’t have to pay thousands more out-of-pocket then take advantage of it.
  21. Others may reach their goals faster, do not compare your path to theirs.
  22. We are all scared.
  23. Stop buying useless things, save your money. Even $20 into a savings over forty-years well, you do the math.
  24. You have a whole life ahead of you, be confident and don’t let anyone tell you your dreams are not within reach.
